President Marie Valencia welcomed everybody back and wished everyone a very Happy New Year.  She gave thanks to God for seeing us through 2015 and giving us the opportunity to see 2016. She prayed that 2016 would be a good new for each member and their loved ones.   She noted that it was a full house during our first meeting of the year and hope that the trend will continue throughout the Rotary year.
Announcements
Wynne Ritch informed all about the forthcoming "Service Above Self" event slated for March 2016.  He said letters for sponsorship are being prepared and would be send out as soon as they are ready.
Dave Friedman informed that a committee would be setup for the Track Meet this year and he would give a full report on this next week.
After all announcements were made, Marc Tapper was called upon to introduce our Speaker for the day – Alex kwechansky, DABFA
Topic: Business Fraud
According to him, fraudsters are everywhere. No matter what business you are in or what part of the country or world you live in, fraud exist. They abound everywhere.  Fraud is the only business venture you can succeed in because you don’t have to tell anyone about it.  The main tool of a fraudster is to keep ‘secret’ and the only thing that exposes a fraudster is ‘exposure’. Long term fraud eventually runs down a company.  So also are business owners who cheat against their own company pays a very high price and at the end of the day, runs the company down.
According to Kwechansky, there are many reasons why people steal money.  Some reasons are: Greed, Survival, Revenge, and Power.
Fraudsters steal from people not by using guns, but by using manipulation and abuse of trust.  Fraudsters look very ordinary.  They are very low-keyed and look like any normal person.  They are usually very nice, and successful people who can charm anyone. They operate so smoothly and talk very convincingly until you are drawn into them and are anxious to do their biding. He caution that we should be wary of people who smile when they talk.  They are likely to be fake. They are likely trying to sell you something.  At the end of his speech, he took some questions from members.
President Valencia thanked our speaker for taking the time to visit our club.

Also this week, Les Grossman (PDG) was at the Chatsworth Sunset Club for the induction of Karyne Ventris into our Club.  They had a nice pot luck dinner and members welcomed Karyne formally. Barbara Pampalone was her sponsor.  Lona Deniz a long-time Chatsworth resident was a guest at the meeting.  Hopefully in the near future, she may decide to join our Club.
