Mary Jane pleaded for volunteers to come early to help her setup the venue.
Richard Miller reminded members to try and attend the Boat Festival at Redondo Beach if they were available, as this yearly event is fun for the whole family.

Les Grossman informed members about the recent changes made by the Council of Legislation.  Moving forward, he urged members to visit the RI website to educate themselves on all the new changes. One of the new changes is the liberation of Rotary attendance rules to enable us attract new members. Rotaract members can now become dual members of both Rotary and Rotaract club.
Wynne Ritch announced that he attended the first meeting of the Rotaract Club at Mission View High School in Van Nuys on August 10, 2016.  He said the students are very excited to be in a Rotaract Club and are looking forward to our new relationship with their school.
Dave Friedman gave us a list of events he has for this Rotary year.  He wants GVNR to help with the purchase of musical instruments for Cleveland High School Jazz Band, of which his son is a member. Some other events that were highlighted:

- Yearly Track Meet Event: This is a very important event of our club.  The event involves high schools from all over the San Fernando Valley.
- Veteran’s Day Parade event
- Harvest/Halloween Festival
- Christmas Lives
- The Angel City Event, where over 5,000 gifts are given out to needy children from all walks of life.

Les Grossman announced that during our Christmas Lives event this year, we should partner with “Vision To Learn” to provide eye exams and glasses to children who might need them.
Marc Tapper was called upon to introduce our guest speaker.
