He went further to announce that there will be a joint lunch meeting between GVNR and New Horizon on October 13, 2016.  He encouraged everyone to please attend.
Bill Wishard:  Spoke briefly about the District Breakfast he attended recently.  The speaker at the event was an officer of the LAPD who gave a comprehensive lecture about the internet, and most importantly, how to navigate and be safe on the internet. Bill concluded that the LAPD is the best in the world.  According to Bill, a great deal of information was shared by the officer and he was very impressed.
Dave Friedman welcomed Les Grossman and Zoraida back from their vacation to Bermuda.
Javier Nunez pleaded for volunteers to help out at our annual holiday/Halloween festival coming up in October.  He says there is no limit to the amount of volunteers needed.  The more the merrier.
Les Grossman was called upon to induct our newest member to our club.  Lourdes Simons was called upon and she was formally inducted to the GVNR club.  We all joyfully welcomed her.

OTHER NEWS OF THE WEEK

As we all are aware, Richard Flanagan’s wife, Mrs. Roberta Lois Flanagan passed away recently. We thank Marc Tapper and Paul Davis, who attended the wake keeping/viewing on Friday.  We also like to thank Wynne Ritch and Mrs. Ritch, Michael Parenteau and yours truly Catherine Ibrahim who attended the funeral service on behalf our club.

Barbara Pampalone, Kris Feuss and I (Catherine Ibrahim) attended the Conejo Valley Peace Heroes Walk Around The World Commemorating 15 Years Since 9/11 event at California Lutheran University.
Some Peace Heroes were:
  1. Paul Harris: Paul P. Harris, a lawyer and founder of Rotary, a world wide international club.  Rotary is an organization of business and professional leaders united worldwide who provide humanitarian service, promote high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world. Famous quote by Harris “Ignorance is a menace to peace.”
  2. ITAF Award: Itaf Award has been committed to women’s empowerment, community development and conflict resolution for over thirty years. She uses tools that promotes communication, mutual understanding and wellness. Famous quote by Itaf “Within each person there exits an innate wisdom that promotes growth and healing.”
  3. Muhammad Ali: Put his beliefs ahead of his career.  Citing religious convictions, he publicly opposed the Vietnam War.  As a result, he was found guilty of draft evasion and stripped of his boxing title. Famous quote by Ali “Service to others is the rent you pay for your room here on earth”
  4. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar: Is an NBA all-time leading scorer.  He is also one of the greatest social activists of our time.  Throughout his life, he has spoken out against social injustice faced by athletes, and African-American and Muslim communities. Famous quote by Kareem “One world does not have to mean one religion, just one belief in living in peace.”
Other Heroes included Martin Luther King, Desmond Tutu.
It was a great and learning event for everyone who attended.
