No Guests of the Club:   Judy opened the Club Assembly meeting with a joke for the day.

 

Rich was happy to tell us he is taking a trip back east to visit family and friends.

 

Rich has concerns on how to handle the too complicated method of figuring the lunch money.  The restaurant on October first will be charging $22.00 for each lunch.  That amount may be a concern for some of the members.  And, as treasurer, the amount of bookkeeping for “pay by the month and pay at the door” is too complicated.  He feels there are too many who will not pay for meals they do not eat, so it will be best to have the ability to use a credit card or check or cash each time at the door.

The dues and the extra charge for the meals of the guests will be billed quarterly instead of monthly.  Members are being billed for the charges that have been accrued through the end of September.

Marie Valencia is considering seriously the encouragement of the members to become the Incoming President next year.

Wynne has tickets for the District Foundation fund-raiser – Twelve raffle tickets are only $100.00 and one ticket is $10.00.

The two foundations of the club are being merged.  The new bylaws need to be approved and 9 people will be on the Greater Van Nuys Rotary Foundation.  Five of those people cannot be board members. 

Peter told us that the club needs to get new legal papers as it is a Corporation registered with the State of California.  He checked to see if the Mid San Fernando Valley ever had legal papers, and it did not.

October 31^st is the Harvest Festival.  It will be at Victory Outreach and we will offer blood pressure readings to participants.  The hours of the event for us are 5-9.  The church is at the corner of Beechy and Osbourne in Arlita. They have many game booths, and blow-up games for the children of the community.   Last year we distributed 300 bags of candy to the children.  The Rotarians are responsible to be the judges for the costumes and are encouraged to come in costume.

On December 16^th our Christmas Party for the needy kids in the Pacoima area is to be held at Local 300 on Devonshire Street.  In and Out Burger is again catering the event.  Over 200 shoes and jackets will be donated to the children of about 50 families in that area.

The club is dark on Thanksgiving.

Barbara reported she is no longer able to keep the portable dental unit running to do dental care at the Salvation Army.  There will be a children’s dental clinic opening in Canoga Park, and she hopes most of what the club has furnished, other than the unit, can be used at that facility.

The Club holiday party will be December 20^th at Wynne’s home with a White Elephant Exchange of gifts for about $15-$20.00. 

December 18^th is the last meeting of the year and it will be for members only also with a gift exchange.

North Valley YMCA does baskets each year for about 3,000 families.
